Traffic Advisory for Beaufort County During Heritage Days Celebration

Beaufort County, get ready for some exciting times ahead! This coming Saturday, November 9th, the annual Heritage Days Parade will take center stage in the heart of our community. Mark your calendars, folks, because this is the 40th year of the Penn Center Heritage Days Celebration, a fantastic three-day festivity dedicated to honoring the rich and vibrant Gullah Geechee Culture.

Parade Time!

The parade kicks off at 9 a.m., and trust us, you won’t want to miss it. This lively event showcases local talent, traditions, and the spirit of our community through a dazzling display of floats, music, and lots of enthusiasm. It’s a perfect occasion to gather with family, friends, and neighbors while celebrating our unique heritage.

Traffic Impact

Now, before you dash out to join the fun, there are a few traffic considerations to keep in mind. Traffic around the Penn Center, where all the magic happens, will be a bit different than usual. The areas on Sea Island Parkway as well as Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be impacted during the event.

From 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m., you can expect Sea Island Parkway to be down to just one lane. So, if you’re heading that way, do plan a little extra time to get to your destination. Meanwhile, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., making it crucial for drivers to be aware of alternative routes.

Traffic Control

No need to worry too much about getting stuck! There will be deputies on-site to help with traffic control throughout the area. They’ll be working hard to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, guiding everyone safely to and from the celebration.

Making the Most of the Celebration

As you plan your day, think about arriving early to get a good spot to enjoy the parade and soak in all the beautiful sights and sounds of the festival. The Penn Center is not only a great location for the festivities, but it also has a rich history that’s worth exploring.

For those unfamiliar with the Gullah Geechee Culture, this celebration is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the traditions, arts, crafts, and cuisine that are deeply rooted in the African American experience in the Sea Islands. Bring your family and friends along for an enriching experience filled with lively stories and performances!

In Summary

This weekend promises to be a memorable one for Beaufort County. With the annual Heritage Days Parade happening on Saturday, plan accordingly to avoid traffic headaches, and enjoy celebrating the Gullah Geechee culture with your neighbors. Remember, the parade kicks off at 9 a.m., and the impact on local traffic is from early morning until lunchtime. Let’s make this a fantastic celebration filled with joy and community spirit. See you there!
