Hardeeville Invests $150,000 in New Workforce Training Center to Boost Local Economy

Hardeeville’s Exciting Step Towards Workforce Development

In a remarkable show of support for education and economic growth, the city of Hardeeville has recently donated a generous $150,000 grant to the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL), aimed at aiding the construction of the new Arthur E. Brown Regional Workforce Training Center. This endeavor is set to take place on TCL’s Bluffton campus and is already generating a buzz in the community!

A Heartfelt Thanks from TCL

TCL President, Dr. Richard Gough, couldn’t have been more grateful during the check presentation ceremony that took place on December 10 at TCL’s New River Campus. “We truly appreciate the City of Hardeeville and its commitment to advancing education and fostering economic growth in our communities,” he expressed, highlighting how vital these funds are for the region.

The groundwork has already begun for this state-of-the-art training center, following a substantial $10 million investment from the State of South Carolina in 2023. With a total of $21 million in combined support from the state and Beaufort County, the center is on track to provide a robust educational experience.

What to Expect from the New Center

Once completed, this impressive facility will boast 50,000 square feet of space and will have the capacity to accommodate 850 students at a time. This opens up a world of educational opportunities and workforce training possibilities for residents looking to enhance their skill sets.

Many influential figures were present during the check presentation, including members of the Hardeeville City Council, the Hardeeville Community Transformation Board, and representatives from the Beaufort Economic Development Corporation. Adding a personal touch, U.S. Army (retired) Gen. Arthur E. Brown Jr., who the center is named after, graced the event with his presence.

Community Response

Hardeeville Assistant City Manager Neil Parsons commended TCL on its unwavering commitment to workforce training. He noted, “We believe this supports educational advancement and workforce training opportunities for the City of Hardeeville to meet the ongoing challenges of our community’s continuous growth.”

Echoing his sentiments, Hardeeville Mayor Harry Williams emphasized, “This initiative provides our residents with the skills and training needed for jobs that are coming.” It is heartening to see local leaders united in the quest for a better future for community members.

The Financial Picture

The total cost for the Arthur E. Brown Regional Workforce Training Center is estimated at a staggering $26 million. Fortunately, the funds are expected to come from a mix of local government contributions, private donations, and fundraising efforts by TCL’s Foundation. This financial support will ensure that the facility not only meets its construction goals but also offers comprehensive training programs for years to come.

A New Chapter in Sea Pines

On another note, Sea Pines has seen significant developments as well. The Riverstone Group, through its subsidiary Riverstone Properties, LLC, recently acquired The Shops at Sea Pines Center, marking a fresh start for this beloved shopping and dining hub. Effective from November 1, 2024, the acquisition promises to not only preserve but also enhance the offerings of this unique location.

Originally established in 1984 by founding investors Ned Payne and Joseph Fraser, The Shops at Sea Pines Center have been a staple for both locals and visitors alike. “We look forward to continuing the tradition of great shopping and dining,” expressed Steve Birdwell, president of The Sea Pines Resort. His enthusiasm signals an ongoing commitment to making The Center an attractive destination.

The Heart of the Community

The Shops at Sea Pines Center provide so much more than just retail options. With a law firm, a real estate company, a post office branch, and even a gas station, this center has become a crucial part of daily life for residents. Moreover, the CSA Community Room hosts events and exhibits, further asserting its status as a community hub.

Looking Forward

The community buzzes with excitement as both Hardeeville and Sea Pines embark on this transformative journey toward educational excellence and enhanced lifestyle offerings. The commitment from local leaders and organizations shines a bright light on the future of both areas.
