Hampton University beats CAA foe Towson

Hampton University took down one of the CAA’s top teams, Towson, in a back-and-forth 67-61 thriller on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates went into halftime with an eight-point lead, which was enough to survive the Tigers’ second half push. The victory was the first CAA win this season for Hampton.

Key Players Shine

Jordan Nesbitt and Tedrick Wilcox Jr. each scored 19 points to lead the way for Hampton. As a team, the Pirates shot 45% from the field, 33% from behind the arc, and 53% from the free throw line. They relied heavily on their deep shots, knocking down 7-of-21 three-point attempts, including 3-of-7 from the corner. Charles Thompson recorded 17 points and nine rebounds, and Christian May contributed another 12 points to pace Towson.

Team Stats

As a team, the Tigers had some offensive struggles, scoring just 0.89 points per possession on 36% shooting from the field. It was a forgettable game from three-point range as the team collectively shot 2-of-15 from deep. Hampton committed three unforced turnovers (5% of possessions) while Towson recorded assists on 36% of attempted field goals.

Game Details

The attendance of the game at the Convocation Center was 2,421. Both sides have until Feb. 22 to rest up and practice. Hampton takes on conference rival Campbell at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena, where the Pirates will look for a repeat of their success here this afternoon. Meanwhile, Towson will try to rebound when they meet a Monmouth side riding the momentum from a win in its last outing. That one will be played at TU Arena.
