Hampton County Schools Earn High Marks in Latest Report Cards!
Hampton County, SC – Exciting news is buzzing in Hampton County as the local school district proudly shares its accomplishments with the community. The Hampton County School District (HCSD) has recently unveiled the results from the 2024 South Carolina School Report Cards, and there is much to celebrate!
In only its third year since the merger of the former H.C. School Districts 1 and 2, HCSD continues to shine bright, showcasing incredible growth in student achievement. According to educators, the results show the district’s commitment to improvement is paying off, especially in the critical area of English Language Arts (ELA).
Breaking Down the Numbers
Under the new report, a whopping 53 percent of students in grades 3-8 scored “Meets or Exceeds” on the state’s SC READY tests in 2024. This marks a significant jump from previous years, where only 36 percent of students in Hampton District One and just 23 percent in District Two hit that benchmark in 2021. Can you believe it? That’s an improvement of 17-30 percentage points over the past three years!
The results are particularly exciting considering the challenges posed by the pandemic. “Even when we look back before the consolidation and the impact of COVID-19, HCSD is scoring significantly above the district averages in ELA,” said Kristy C. Wood, HCSD Director of Curriculum and Instruction. While Math scores took a hit due to school closures, HCSD has managed to close the gap and is on an upward trajectory.
Great Achievements Highlighted
One piece of good news comes from the fact that all Elementary and Middle Schools in the district have shown an increase in their Academic Achievement ratings. “Our report card ratings don’t always reflect the significant growth being made in our schools, but we are proud to report that all Elementary and Middle Schools showed an increase,” Wood added.
And let’s not forget the hard-working staff at both Brunson Elementary School and Estill Elementary Schools who achieved the impressive overall rating of ‘GOOD’ this year. Their hard work and dedication truly make a difference!
Understanding the Report Cards
These report cards aren’t just about how well students are doing; they also provide a comprehensive view of school performance based on several key indicators such as student progress, college and career readiness, high school graduation rates, and even how students feel about their schools.
