Hampton County, SC – The Hampton County Historical Society has announced that it will be hosting a Beta Sigma Phi Exhibit in April. Founded in the 1930s, Beta Sigma Phi is an international sorority known globally as “The Friendship Organization”, offering social, cultural, and educational opportunities to women. A Phi chapter was installed in Hampton County in 1946.
The upcoming exhibit will celebrate 78 years of sorority life and community activities in Hampton County. It is inspired by a memorial donation from Betty Ruth Crews’ extensive Beta Sigma Phi collection. Visitors can expect to see pictures, memorabilia, and hear stories about remarkable members and the Laureate Chapter’s significant contributions to the local community. The exhibit will be open to the public during regular visiting hours at the Hampton County Museum.
Elsewhere, the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL) will host two open house events in April. Students are invited to register and enroll during these events. TCL offers certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in pathways that include arts, building & industrial, business management & accounting, culinary arts & hospitality, health sciences, education & professional studies, law & criminal justice, and STEM.
Bluffton’s Hopeful Horizons charity will host its annual fundraising gala, An Evening with Hopeful Horizons, in April. The gala will feature a powerful presentation from survivors, Voices of Courage, along with gourmet food, an open bar, and silent and live auctions. The event aims to raise funds to support the critical services offered by Hopeful Horizons to local survivors of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault.
In other news, Charmane Orr of Estill was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Orr is part of the lucky few to be chosen each year to join the ranks of this highly-regarded honor society. With more than 1.5 million members since its inception, Phi Kappa Phi boasts notable alumni such as former President Jimmy Carter, astronaut Wendy Lawrence, novelist John Grisham and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.
All events, from the historical exhibit to the education-focused open house and charity gala, represent a commitment by Hampton County and surrounding regions to foster community, education, and well-being.
