Gulfstream Announces Completion of Savannah Service Center Expansion

Savannah, GA – Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has recently unveiled the official completion of its upgradation and expansion project for its Customer Support service center located at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Known as Savannah Service Center East, this expanded facility is expected to generate over 200 fresh jobs and notably enhance Gulfstream’s capacity, maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities.

To commemorate the inauguration of the new space, Gulfstream hosted a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 15, 2024. In attendance were state and local government officials, community partners, as well as key figures from Gulfstream’s leadership team and workforce.

An Investment to Bolster Capabilities

In an address, Derek Zimmerman, President of Gulfstream Customer Support, stated, “We continue to expand and augment our services in response to the sustained growth of Gulfstream’s next-generation craft, including the recently certified G700.” He went on to explain that this expansion in Savannah is part of the company’s strategic blueprint to construct the industry’s most futuristic and sustainable service network. Zimmerman added the enhancement will considerably improve access and convenience for their customer base.

Over $150 million has been pumped into the 367,000-square-foot facility, located at the east side of the airport. The newly constructed building supplements the main Savannah Service Center by adding additional hangar space, offices, and back shops, all designed for optimal efficiency. With this increased space, Gulfstream can cater to 26 further aircraft at any given time.

Gulfstream projects that the enlarged Savannah Service Center East will receive the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. This approval will be for recycling at least 75% of construction waste, as well as the incorporation of sustainable features such as energy-efficient lighting, enhanced control systems for heating and cooling, exceptional energy performance, low-emitting building materials, water-saving fixtures, electric vehicle charging stations, and prioritized parking for low-emission vehicles.

Promoting Growth and Sustainability

The Savannah Service Center East expansion, first announced in 2018, has increased Gulfstream’s total service area in Savannah to more than 1.1 million square feet. Overall, the company’s service centers in Savannah now have 10 hangars capacity to accommodate over 85 Gulfstream aircraft simultaneously.

Zimmerman emphasized, “Savannah, being the global headquarters of Gulfstream, is now our largest global service center location. This expansion ensures our dedicated team is equipped with the necessary resources to further support our customers, who visit this iconic city from around the globe.”

In addition to the Savannah site, Gulfstream’s Customer Support’s modernized service network includes new establishments located in Van Nuys, California; Appleton, Wisconsin; Fort Worth, Texas; Palm Beach, Florida; Farnborough, England; and the soon-to-be-completed service center in Mesa, Arizona.

Building for the Future

With its latest expansion, Gulfstream continues to invest in its facilities and workforce in Savannah and around the globe. The company’s commitment to sustainability, customer service, and workforce development ensures that it will remain a worldwide leader in the aerospace industry as it builds for the future.
