Registration Now Open For Free Girls Code Savannah Spring Sessions

Savannah, Ga.

Girls Code Savannah is back once again! The Creative Coast’s youth program is slated to return this spring with four, free, in-person Saturday Sessions starting March 23rd, 2024.

This innovative program is a STEM‐based educational platform focused on teaching 5th to 8th-grade girls in Savannah Chatham County Public Schools on coding. Notably, it will partner with Live Oak Public Libraries to conduct the sessions at different library locations each week.

Saturday Sessions Details

Girls Code Savannah Saturday Sessions will meet from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Dates and locations for the four sessions include:

  • March 23rd at Islands Library
  • April 13th at Southwest Chatham Library
  • April 20th at Bull Street Library
  • April 27th at Garden City Library

A Program for All Skill Levels

Each location will run two parallel sessions: one for beginners and another for returning coders of Girls Code Savannah. The beginner-level session will offer an introduction to HTML and CSS. This is ideal for students new to website coding or those looking for a refresher on introductory website coding skills.

Meanwhile, the second session will allow returning coders to continue building upon the websites they’ve already developed.

A Strong Support Team

Girls Code Savannah is spearheaded by Lesli Ott, an accomplished full-stack software developer and data scientist. As a lead instructor for Girls Code Savannah camps and classes, Lesli is responsible for curriculum development.

Lesli and a team of female high school and college students, who serve as teaching assistants, provide mentorship and guidance to the attendees. This mentorship scheme enables young girls to learn coding in a supportive, fun, and engaging space.

A Future in STEM

The primary mission of Girls Code Savannah is to inspire girls in the Savannah community to pursue their technology and coding education further. The program encourages girls to consider the benefits of pursuing careers in the high-impact, high-income field of STEM.

To register for spring sessions, interested participants can visit the Girls Code Savannah website. It’s important to note that whilst Girls Code Savannah primarily caters for 5th to 8th-grade girls in Savannah Chatham County Public Schools (including homeschool students), all genders are welcome to join the camps and classes.

Community Support

Girls Code Savannah is a community partner program of The Creative Coast. It is made possible by the generous annual sponsors at the City of Savannah and the Howmet Aerospace Foundation.
