About Fort Fremont

For those who may not know, Fort Fremont was originally constructed in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. It served a crucial role in the coastal defense of Port Royal Sound and the nearby Naval Station at Parris Island. Today, Beaufort County has acquired a stunning 18 acres of the original fort to transform it into a peaceful park for everyone to enjoy. The Preserve boasts mixed hardwood forests, walking trails, picnic pavilions, and remnants of the historic battery, as well as a History Center showcasing fascinating period artifacts.
