Flau’jae Johnson, known for her exceptional athletic achievements at LSU, is giving back to her roots in a significant way. This past weekend, she hosted the second annual Back to School Giveback Festival in Savannah. The community event saw local students walking away with new shoes, clothes, headphones, and fully stocked backpacks ready for the coming school year.
But it wasn’t just school supplies that were given out at the event. The Enmarket Arena turned festival ground also featured music, food stalls, games, bounce houses, face painting booths, and a raffle draw. Attendees were swept with a day of fun, learning, and excitement, creating a fostering environment that promotes education.
Flau’jae Johnson, well aware of the necessities of students from her hometown, was motivated to take action. “I think it’s essential to give back to the kids,” said Johnson. “To give them a positive reflection of the city, somebody who genuinely cares about them, is vitally important. If the opportunity presented itself for me to aid my city, I firmly decided to fully commit. I aimed and succeeded at reaching out to as many people as I could. Today, we managed to cater to well over 1,000 youngsters with entirely kitted out backpacks. It’s a major achievement and, for this, I am so grateful.”
Residents embraced the initiative wholeheartedly. The festival proved to be an enormous success, and feedback from the crowd was overwhelmingly positive. Parents appreciated seeing a local celebrity take such an active role in contributing to the community and offering encouragement to the young people. The children, on the other hand, were not just thrilled to receive their new school supplies but also to be part of the celebrations – praising the inclusive and engaging nature of the event. Johnson’s efforts have indeed highlighted the pride of being part of the Hostess City and the importance of community unity.
Events like Johnson’s Back to School Giveback Festival play a critical role in supporting low-income families and easing the burdens around school start-up costs. It is a significant contribution that helps every student to start their school year feeling prepared, positive, and valued. Flau’jae’s selfless act serves as an inspiration not only for her community in Savannah but for every citizen who has the potential to make a difference.
