Exciting Changes on Hilton Head Island: Schools Unifying for a Better Education Experience!

Hey, Hilton Head Island! Big news is stirring in our lovely community, and it’s certainly going to reshape the landscape of education around here. In a historic development, two of the island’s beloved schools are joining forces to create a single, unified educational institution. Sea Pines Montessori Academy is merging with Hilton Head Preparatory School to serve children from as young as 15 months up to the 12th grade!

A New Beginning for Our Young Learners

As announced last month, this collaboration will retain the Hilton Head Preparatory School name while adding a dedicated Montessori-based division called Sea Pines Montessori Academy at Hilton Head Preparatory School. This newly integrated program will focus on children from 15 months through third grade, while the existing Kindergarten to 12th-grade programs will continue strong.

In the buzz surrounding this landmark partnership, school officials said this move is all about shaping the future for generations to come. Founded in 1965 by Charles Fraser, a key figure in Hilton Head’s history, Hilton Head Preparatory School has been at the heart of educational excellence on the island for nearly six decades. Fast forward to the founding of Sea Pines Montessori Academy by Mary Fraser, Charles’ wife, and you see how both institutions have been cornerstones in our educational landscape.

Creating a Customized Learning Experience

This partnership brings something exciting to the table: a dual-track educational program. With options for both Montessori and traditional styles from Kindergarten through third grade, families can now choose a learning path tailored to their child’s unique needs and preferences.

As students transition to grades four through twelve, both tracks will work seamlessly together, giving our kids a smooth and cohesive educational journey. Plus, since the campuses are right next door to each other, moving between the two will be a breeze!

A Glimpse into the Future

Sam Bauer, who graduated from Hilton Head Prep in 1984, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration. He sees the uniting of these two schools as a big leap forward for the Hilton Head community. He mentioned, “This partnership is truly historic, bringing together two institutions that have deep roots in Hilton Head Island’s legacy. We are thrilled to come full circle, uniting the Fraser family’s vision under one banner.”

And let’s hear from Kelley Stearns and Sydney Hitchcock, co-chairs of the Sea Pines Montessori Board, who can hardly contain their excitement! They believe this union offers an unparalleled educational pathway that will take our children from their earliest years all the way through high school graduation.

Welcoming New Opportunities

Head of School Paul Horgan will oversee this unified institution, bringing a wealth of experience and vision to the role. He noted, “This partnership is the culmination of a long-standing relationship between our schools. By bringing Sea Pines Montessori into the Hilton Head Prep family, we are enhancing our mission to provide a cohesive, world-class education from the toddler years all the way to college preparation.” Horgan feels honored to lead this initiative and firmly believes it will strengthen the community for years to come.

Strategic Planning for a Smooth Transition

With a well-thought-out plan already in place, the school ensures that the transition will be smooth and seamless. Their recently completed five-year strategic plan sets a framework for this unified and forward-thinking educational program, dedicated to serving the children and families of Hilton Head Island and nearby areas.

So, let’s raise our hats to this amazing collaboration between Sea Pines Montessori Academy and Hilton Head Preparatory School! The future of education on Hilton Head Island is indeed bright, innovative, and filled with possibilities!
