Savannah, Georgia, is abuzz with a heartwarming story that’s sure to tug at your heartstrings! In an inspiring turn of events, local police officers have made headlines after they bravely saved a dog that had found herself in a perilous situation during the recent heavy rains and flooding that hit the area.
The startling rescue took place on Thursday, November 7, at around 5:45 p.m. in the 4300 Block of ACL Boulevard. The heavy downpours from the recent storm had caused flooding, and when someone noticed a dog in distress, they quickly alerted the authorities. The Savannah Police Department sprang into action, determined to find and rescue the poor creature.
The officers arrived on the scene and began their search, scanning the surrounding area for the source of the cries. To their dismay, the dog was trapped behind a locked gate within a private lot. Not one to shy away from a challenge, the police contacted the owner of the lot, who promptly arrived to unlock the gate. Talk about teamwork!
Once the gate swung open, the officers were faced with a daunting sight: floodwaters that were anything but inviting. But these dedicated officers weren’t about to let that stop them. With determination in their hearts, they bravely waded through the swirling water to reach the back of the lot, where they discovered the frightened dog perched on a small patch of high ground.
Meet the hero of this story, the sweet dog who has since been lovingly nicknamed ‘Rain.’ With the utmost care, Officer Workman fashioned a safety rope around Rain to secure her, while Sergeant Lockett lifted her out of the floodwaters and carried her to safety. Can you imagine how relieved and thankful that pooch must have felt?
Now that she’s out of danger, Rain is currently receiving care at the Chatham County Animal Shelter. Here’s where the story gets even better! Rain is hoping to find a loving, forever home where she can feel safe and cherished. The shelter staff are taking great care of her while she waits for someone special to come along and adopt her.
