Savannah’s Over the Moon Diaper Bank Hosts Great Big Diaper Giveaway for Families in Need

Savannah, GA Ready for a Big Holiday Helping Hand!

Are you a parent feeling the pinch of holiday expenses? Need a little extra support for your little ones as we zip into the festive season? Well, we’ve got some *delightful* news for you! Over in Savannah, the Over the Moon Diaper Bank is rolling out the red carpet for parents with its very own Great Big Diaper Giveaway on Saturday, December 14th, and you won’t want to miss it!

When and Where to Get Your Hands on Essential Supplies

Mark your calendars, because this event is happening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the White Bluff United Methodist Church located at 11911 White Bluff Road. It’s a drive-thru event, so you can stay cozy in your car without any hassle. Just be sure to come early because it’s first come, first served. Once the supplies run out, that’s it!

What’s on Offer?

According to Katie Griffith, the executive director of Over the Moon, they will have a whopping 50,000 diapers ready for distribution! Sizes range from 1 to 6, so whether you have a *tiny newborn* or a *toddler in training*, they’ve got you covered. Plus, there will be baby wipes and even period products available! Although, just a quick note, training pants or adult items won’t be included in the giveaway.

A Mission of Support

Griffith, who started Over the Moon back in 2019 from her home, highlights that the organization is focused on filling the gaps left by safety-net programs like WIC and SNAP, which don’t cover diaper costs. “This event is special because we are offering families 100 diapers per child to help fill the gap a bit deeper during this holiday season,” she explained.

Strong Community Support

The diapers for the giveaway are supplied by generous partners like Huggies through the National Diaper Bank and Baby2Baby networks. On top of that, local businesses, churches, schools, and families contribute by hosting diaper drives which keeps the supplies flowing. Isn’t it heartwarming to see the community come together for a great cause?

Disaster Relief Efforts

With recent storms like Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene affecting parts of Georgia, Over the Moon has stepped up to the plate, distributing more than 200,000 supplies to families in need. This upcoming giveaway isn’t just a one-time event; it’s part of ongoing assistance to families facing hardships due to natural disasters and job losses.

Growing Wider Reach

Since its inception, Over the Moon has been on a growth trajectory, expanding its reach across 12 counties in Coastal Georgia and even stretching into three counties in South Carolina. Thanks to a recent grant from the One Hundred Children’s Foundation, they’ve also been able to place Moon Lockers filled with diapers in local libraries, making it easier for families to access these much-needed items.
