As the sun blazes down on Savannah, residents are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Helene, especially those who have found themselves without power. It can be a tough situation to face these days, with the heat and humidity making everything more uncomfortable. Thankfully, the community is pulling together with several cooling centers opening up around the area this Saturday.
If you’re looking for a place to beat the heat, here’s a list of cooling centers that are ready to welcome you:
For those heading to the Kindom Life Christian Fellowship, it’s reassuring to know that Savannah Police will have officers present to assist with any questions or concerns you might have.
In addition to these cooling centers, residents can also find help at the Beaufort County Emergency Operations Center, which is setting up a portable electric trailer at Beaufort Middle School. This trailer will allow individuals to charge their medical devices and phones, and it will be open until dark. The location is 2501 Mossy Oaks Road, so make sure to swing by if you need a charge!
If you’re feeling hungry, Calvary Baptist Church at 256 Savannah Highway in Beaufort is opening its doors for free meals and offering a place to charge devices as well. There’s certainly no need to go without a decent meal during this time of need!
To help keep everyone cool this weekend, there’s also going to be ice available at Memorial Stadium and L. Scott Stell Park from 9am to 7pm on Sunday. This is a great way to keep drinks cool and make sure that you’re staying hydrated in this heat.
So, if you’ve been feeling the heat and haven’t had power since the hurricane, know that you’re not alone. The community is rallying around you to provide places where you can cool off, charge your devices, and grab a bite to eat. Remember to check in on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and make sure everyone is staying safe!
As we navigate this challenging time together, it’s heartwarming to see how Savannah pulls together and supports one another. Stay cool, stay safe, and take advantage of these community resources!
