City Council Meetings Relocate to Whitney Administrative Complex During Restoration of City Hall

City Council Meetings Move to New Temporary Location

Welcome to beautiful Savannah, Georgia! If you’re a Savannah local or simply someone interested in our vibrant city, there’s an update about where you’ll be able to catch the upcoming City Council meetings. Starting this Thursday, September 12, these important gatherings will be taking place at the Board of Education’s Whitney Administrative Complex instead of City Hall.

Why the Change?

You might be wondering why the change of scenery? Well, the reason is quite exciting—our treasured City Hall and Council Chambers are undergoing a significant restoration project. This is actually the first major interior restoration effort since the building was established way back in 1906. Talk about a long overdue makeover!

The City of Savannah has announced that the restoration efforts are expected to wrap up around February 2025. So, while we wait for our gorgeous City Hall to be even more stunning, the City Council meetings will continue at their temporary home.

What to Expect at the Meetings

Don’t fret if you’re someone who loves attending City Council meetings in-person! The meetings will proceed as usual in the new location, and they remain open to the public and media. This means you can still show up, have your voice heard, and enjoy the democratic process right at the heart of our community.

Additionally, for those who can’t make it in person or prefer to stay in the comfort of their home, there’s good news. All City Council meetings will be live-streamed on the City’s social media accounts as well as on SGTV, which is available on Comcast Channel 8. So whether you want to join live or watch later, you’ve got options!

A Community Effort

The ongoing renovations reflect Savannah’s dedication not only to preserving our historic landmarks but also to providing a welcoming environment for its citizens. Community engagement is crucial, and these meetings will still serve as a platform for residents to voice their concerns or share ideas with their elected officials.

As you can imagine, maintaining and enhancing our local infrastructure is no small task. The restoration process will ensure that City Hall is not only beautiful but also functional for many years to come. Just think of the stories this building has witnessed over a century! From policy decisions to town hall gatherings, the history embedded within its walls is truly fascinating.

Stay Tuned!

So mark your calendars for September 12, and get ready to join the conversation about the future of Savannah at the Whitney Administrative Complex. Whether you’re attending in person or tuning in from home, your voice matters! From essential city services to local developments, each meeting is an opportunity for both officials and residents to come together as a community.

In the meantime, as the fall season approaches, don’t forget to check out local stores for fun seasonal finds—from Halloween decorations to new culinary tools that could spice up your kitchen adventures. There’s always something happening in Savannah, so let’s stay engaged and excited about our city!

Remember, this is our city—we’re all part of making it a better place. See you at the meeting!
