Artists showcasing their chalk masterpieces at the annual Chalk It Up! Festival in Beaufort.
The second annual “Chalk It Up!” festival will take place in downtown Beaufort from March 28 to 30, featuring an array of talented artists who will create stunning chalk art. Hosted by the Freedman Arts District, the festival aims to inspire the community through art and culture. The event will include live performances, a Kids’ Zone, and food from local vendors, culminating in an awards ceremony for the top artists. Free admission makes this an accessible event for all art enthusiasts.
The second annual “Chalk It Up!” festival will transform downtown Beaufort into an open-air gallery on March 28 through March 30.
Throughout the weekend, over 40 artists will create elaborate chalk art on pavement canvases, with sizes ranging from 4-foot squares to large vertical panels.
Artists will dedicate nearly 17 hours to complete their pieces while visitors can watch the process from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival will conclude with a judging and awards ceremony on Sunday evening, where the top three artists will win cash prizes.
Last year’s inaugural festival attracted over 10,000 visitors, with expectations for similar or increased attendance this year. Cherimie Weatherford, program director for the Freedman Arts District, notes the festival’s significance in inspiring and empowering the community through art.
