A Celebration of Life Planned for Esteemed Engineer and Educator Chuck Keith

The community is gearing up for a heartfelt Celebration of Life to honor the legacy of Chuck Keith, a beloved engineer, educator, and family man, who left an indelible mark on those around him. This event will take place on February 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, located at 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio.

A Life of Accomplishments

Born on July 25, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, Chuck was the son of Wayne and Glenna Keith. He displayed an early penchant for learning, graduating from Worthington High School in 1970 before pursuing higher education. Chuck earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University by 1974, and he didn’t stop there. His thirst for knowledge led him to obtain a Master’s degree in Construction Management from The Ohio State University in 1978, followed by a law degree from Capital University in 1980.

Chuck’s career in the construction industry began at Great Lakes Construction, where he launched his professional journey in 1974. He continued his path at Geupel Construction Company starting in 1976, a tenure that lasted until 1995. That year marked a pivotal change in his career, as he purchased Hi-Way Paving and transformed it into a thriving full-service general contractor. Under Chuck’s visionary leadership, Hi-Way Paving landed significant contracts with the Department of Defense and the Federal Aviation Administration during the 2000s.

A Dedicated Family Man

In addition to his professional achievements, Chuck was notably devoted to his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue, on April 12, 1975, and together they raised two sons, Dustin and Josh. Both sons found their own paths influenced by their father’s passions; Dustin took up the saxophone, inspired by Chuck’s love of music, while Josh pursued a career in audio engineering and music production.

Chuck was not only a loving father but also a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He infused game-day traditions with his creativity by renovating a vintage school bus for tailgating adventures at Ohio Stadium. His enthusiasm extended to Columbus Blue Jackets games as well, where he held season tickets. His love for adventure and travel often led him to Florida and Hilton Head Island.

A Teaching Legacy

Chuck dedicated over three decades to educating the next generation at The Ohio State University’s College of Civil Engineering, teaching Construction Contracts and Claims from 1980 until 2019. He had the unique honor of co-teaching this course with his own son, Dustin, who has since taken the helm as CEO of Hi-Way Paving.

A Passionate Individual

Beyond his professional life, Chuck was known for his hobbies and interests. An avid golfer, he was frequently found on the green honing his skills. His culinary flair as a grill master delighted many at family reunions and pig roasts. Chuck specialized in gardening, with a particular focus on growing tomatoes and garlic, and his family gatherings were a testament to his loving nature.

Stemming from cherished family traditions, Chuck built lasting memories at a family cabin in MacArthur, Ohio, manufactured by his father. His legacy will continue through his loved ones, including his wife Sue, sons Dustin (Muriel) and Josh (Samantha), siblings, and grandchildren.

Honoring His Memory

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Chuck’s memory can be made to Pelotonia or the RecW Continuing Education Scholarship. This Celebration of Life offers an opportunity for friends, family, and admirers to come together to share stories and celebrate the extraordinary life of Chuck Keith, whose kindness and contributions to society will surely be missed.
