As we celebrate a remarkable milestone, Savannah stands as a cherished backdrop for a journey filled with love, growth, and unforgettable moments. Twenty years ago, in the spring of 1999, one individual took a leap of faith, landing in this beautiful city, ready to embrace everything it had to offer. It’s a story that resonates with so many who have found their home here.

The Beginning of a New Adventure

Back then, our storyteller was working at Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant in Orlando, a bustling place that had just opened at Universal Studios. little did they know that a phone call from Savannah would change everything. It was a call from a news director who wanted to offer them a position in sports at WSAV-TV.

Imagine the excitement mixed with a tinge of nervousness! Our storyteller hurried to the nearest payphone to call their wife, Sheila. The joy in her voice was palpable as she relayed the news: “He wants to talk to you!” But the excitement soon turned into a moment of doubt when dad voiced his concerns about Savannah, a city he remembered from a long ago bus station stop.

While their father’s apprehensions stemmed from the past, our storyteller saw the potential for change, and with that optimistic outlook, they made the move, ultimately paving the way for twenty unforgettable years.

A Home in Savannah

Fast forward to now, after some time spent away, they revisited Savannah in 2008 and quickly fell back in love with the charm, community, and vibrant culture that the city boasts. Reflecting on their time here, it becomes clear that Savannah has woven itself into the fabric of their life.

Spending years in this wonderful city means a wealth of experiences—tea with the Irish Navy off the coast of Tybee Island, thrilling presidential inaugurations, and countless memories forged with friends. Savannah’s warm embrace was evident from day one, making it easier to establish lifelong friendships, while also captivating hearts through shared experiences.

Welcoming Community and Personal Growth

Despite the societal challenges that prevail today, Savannah has remained a bright spot. The sense of community here has been nothing short of welcoming, allowing families to thrive and individuals to feel at home. Our storyteller, being a proud Cuban American, acknowledges that while there may always be instances of ignorance, the warmth from the surrounding community has far outweighed any negativity experienced.

The love for Savannah extends to family as well. Their daughter, born here, has grown to appreciate the unique charm that the city offers. Although she faced some challenges growing up, it’s clear that the roots run deep. The motivation to express gratitude to this lovely city stems from the experiences here, filled with warmth, connection, and genuine support.
