The Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) announced that an estimated 60,000 gallons of wastewater spilled out from a failed force main, impacting the area near the intersection of Okatie Highway and Lawton Boulevard.

The Incident Unfolds

According to BJWSA’s report, the overflow kicked off around 12:45 p.m. on December 8, and teams promptly sprung into action to tackle the issue. Luckily, by around 5 p.m., the overflow was successfully stopped, but not without some concern from local residents. Fast forward to the early hours of the following day, and the affected pipeline was repaired and back in action by around 1:30 a.m..

Cleanup Efforts Underway

The crews didn’t waste any time initiating the cleanup and recovery process. They aimed to mitigate any further environmental impact as the wastewater made its way toward a nearby retention pond and a wooded area to the east of Pickett Mill Boulevard. Talk about a long day at work!
