Bluffton Voters Choose Local Business Owner Burden for Town Council

Bluffton business owner and Bluffton native Emily Vaux Burden emerged victorious in the recent special election held on February 13, securing the last open seat on the Town Council. Burden, the owner of the popular Bluffton boutique Gigi’s, garnered a total of 1,902 votes, defeating her opponent Emily Mayer, who received 679 votes.

Focus on Controlling Growth

During her campaign for the Town Council seat, Burden emphasized her commitment to managing Bluffton’s rapid growth while prioritizing the preservation of the town’s quality of life. With her extensive experience as a local business owner, Burden aims to bring a unique perspective to the council and address the challenges and opportunities that come with the expansion of the community.

Successor to Mayor Larry Toomer

The special election was held to determine who would fill the vacant seat on the Town Council left by Mayor Larry Toomer, serving the remaining two years of his term. Burden’s victory signifies the trust and support of Bluffton residents in her ability to lead and make decisions that will positively impact the town and its residents.

Sworn into Office

Emily Vaux Burden is set to be officially sworn into office at the upcoming Town Council meeting scheduled for March 12. Her inauguration will mark the beginning of her term on the council, where she plans to actively engage with the community, address critical issues, and work towards the continued progress and prosperity of Bluffton.
