Bluffton Police Department Takes Part in Walk to End Alzheimer’s

BLUFFTON, SC. – Local Law Enforcement Stands Against Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is being marked in the city of Bluffton, with local law enforcement officers taking an active role. Throughout the month, police officers have added a touch of purple to their cruisers, using ribbons to symbolize their support and raise awareness for the cause.

According to Bluffton’s Police Chief, the effort represents a broader commitment to assisting those affected by Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders within the local community.

“There are many people within our community that suffer from Alzheimer’s or other cognitive disabilities, and we want to create awareness, raise some money that can help find a cure,” explained Bluffton Chief of Police. The department is making plans to contribute to the cause further by participating in the Alzheimer’s Walk organized for this October.

Commitment Beyond The Badge

Bluffton’s commitment towards supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s extends beyond the police department. The town staff recently held an internal seminar to educate attendees about best practices when dealing with community members suffering from Alzheimer’s. The police chief, too, made a point of attending this seminar.

“We interact with our community every day. Therefore, it’s crucial that we understand how to communicate effectively with as many people as possible,” said the Chief of Police.

The Alzheimer’s Association, the organization behind the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, expressed appreciation for the extensive support it has received from communities in South Carolina.

“We find it quite heartening to see communities and townships taking charge, especially during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month. We hope to see this conversation evolve beyond the aging issue and shape our interactions in general,” commented a representative of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Striving for More

In an effort to become even more resourceful, the department is reportedly trying to acquire new technology that would allow them to better assist residents affected by cognitive diseases in the region.
