Bluffton Parkway Corridor Study: Your Voice Matters!

Residents of Bluffton, mark your calendars for an exciting opportunity to make your voice heard! On February 25, there will be a Public Information meeting dedicated to discussing the Bluffton Parkway Corridor Study. This gathering will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buckwalter Recreation Center, located at 905 Buckwalter Parkway in Bluffton.

What’s on the Agenda?

The meeting promises to be informative and engaging, starting with a brief presentation outlining the goals of the study followed by an open house session where community members can roam, ask questions, and provide input. This is your chance to weigh in on an important project that affects everyone in the area!

Why the Study Matters

The Bluffton Parkway Corridor Study is a significant part of the Lowcountry Area Transportation Study (LATS) 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). This study aims to tackle the various transportation challenges that have come up in southern Beaufort County. As folks know, the Bluffton Parkway serves as not just a picturesque route but a crucial alternate path to US 278, connecting SC 170 to beautiful Hilton Head Island.

Addressing Key Concerns

As Bluffton continues to grow and develop, so do the concerns about safety, traffic congestion, and access management along this busy corridor. Increased demand due to regional expansion has highlighted the need for this study, which will look at existing conditions and explore solutions to enhance the corridor’s effectiveness.

What’s Been Done So Far?

The initial work on this study kicked off last summer, with data collection commencing in the fall. Researchers have been busy conducting a safety analysis of the existing conditions as well as future scenario assessments, so they’re well on their way to providing valuable insights. The next phases include evaluating alternatives this winter and spring while also crafting a conceptual plan for improvements.

Looking Ahead

Come spring 2024, the project team will discuss potential project costs and implementation strategies, with a final plan tentatively scheduled for completion soon after. It’s essential for all residents, business owners, and commuters to participate and share their thoughts on the corridor’s challenges to ensure the plan covers what matters most to the community.

How to Get Involved

Don’t wait to make your voice heard! The official comment period for the study began on February 10 and will continue until March 12. Community members can provide feedback online through designated links and surveys. This is an amazing opportunity to express any concerns or suggestions you might have regarding the future of the Bluffton Parkway!

Community Voices Matter

Interestingly enough, a Change.org petition against Bluffton Parkway Phase 5B has already gathered over 1,400 signatures, with many citing concerns over environmental impacts and increased traffic congestion. The Beaufort County Council is set to discuss this petition and the Bluffton Parkway Phase 5B in their meeting on March 25. This discussion will dive into the community’s concerns and reflect the feedback gathered during the ongoing study.

Join Us!

The upcoming meeting is an excellent way to get informed and involved. If you care about the future of transportation in Bluffton, make sure to attend and share your thoughts. Together, let’s work towards making Bluffton Parkway a safer, more efficient route for everyone!
