Goodbye to Grooby’s Too: Beloved Bluffton Deli Closes After Three Years

Goodbye, Grooby’s Too: A Beloved Bluffton Deli Bids Farewell

Bluffton, get ready to say goodbye to one of your favorite spots! After three years of serving up delicious meals, Grooby’s Too is closing its doors. This New York City-style deli quickly gained a reputation for its mouthwatering sandwiches, scrumptious stuffed cabbage, and incredible desserts. Owner Stacy Gruber has decided to move on but is holding on to hope for a possible comeback in a new location in the future.

The Heart of Grooby’s Too

For those who haven’t had the chance to visit, Grooby’s Too was more than just a restaurant; it was a slice of New York right here in the Lowcountry. Filled with colorful frilled picks and loaded with “more meat than your mouth can handle,” the sandwiches were a lunchtime favorite for many. In the evenings, patrons flocked in for hearty meals like stuffed cabbage and chicken parmesan, bringing a comforting vibe reminiscent of family dinners.

And let’s not forget about the desserts! The thick slices of layered cakes, ranging from the rich Almond Joy to the tangy Key Lime, welcomed diners with a sweet ending. These cakes were lovingly displayed on cake stands, enticing everyone who walked through the door.

Stacy Gruber’s Journey

Stacy Gruber, the heart and soul behind Grooby’s Too, has a rich history in the restaurant business. Growing up in the Bronx, New York, in a family of butchers, Stacy carried the love of deli cuisine with her when she relocated to the Lowcountry in the 1980s. Missing the flavors and atmosphere of a classic New York deli, she jumped at the chance to open the original Gruby’s on Hilton Head Island in 1986. There, she spent over 30 years learning the ropes and building a connection with burger-loving locals.

In 2021, she made the switch to Bluffton, creating Grooby’s Too. “One of my favorite parts of owning a restaurant,” Stacy shared, “is seeing people’s faces light up when they eat the food we serve.” Such genuine moments have made her time in Bluffton unforgettable.

A Bright Future Ahead?

While the closing of Grooby’s Too comes as a surprise to many loyal customers, Stacy is optimistic about the future. She’s eyeing a spot off of Okatie Highway, just six miles away from their site at Sheridan Park Circle. In her plans, she hopes to reopen within the next six to eight months. Her positive spirit shines as she mentioned desires to continue delivering the beloved New York-style deli food that built her business and touched the hearts of so many.

As the community prepares to say goodbye at Grooby’s Too, it’s hard not to feel the warmth of happy memories shared over sandwiches and cake. The charming deli will be missed, but the prospect of a new beginning brings hope to the table. Keep your fingers crossed for a speedy return, Bluffton!

Final Thoughts

If you have yet to visit Grooby’s Too, now is the perfect time to stop by and bid farewell. Enjoy one last layered piece of cake or giant sandwich while embracing the warmth and fondness of community. Until Stacy sets up shop in a new location, we’ll be holding onto those cherished memories. Cheers to you, Grooby’s Too! Here’s hoping for a sweet comeback soon!
