BJWSA Asks Customers to Stagger Water Usage
Water Use Restrictions Put in Place due to Increasing Demand
Okatie, S.C. – Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA) has appealed to its customers to stagger their water usage. The call comes amid an escalating demand for irrigation, which now accounts for approximately half of the daily water demand according to the agency.
The staggering of water usage by residents, as proposed by BJWSA, is aimed at limiting the strain on the available water resources. The authority has released an irrigation schedule for customers to follow in an attempt to manage the consumption of water more effectively.
Customer Water Usage Schedule
The issued schedule from BJWSA recommends that customers refrain from irrigation on Mondays and between the hours of 3-9 a.m. on any day. The agency further suggests adjusting irrigation timers to ensure watering only occurs three days a week.
The alternate watering days, based on house numbers, are as follows:
- Odd number addresses get to water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
- Even number addresses get to water on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
The preferred watering slot according to BJWSA is either between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m., or 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Efforts Toward Water Sufficiency
Displaying a commitment to addressing the increasing water demand, BJWSA has several ongoing projects. The projects include doubling the treatment capacity of the Purrysburg water treatment plant. This upgrade on completion will allow the plant to produce 30 million gallons of water per day, a significant boost from its current capacity.
In another development, BJWSA is in the process of constructing a 1.5 million-gallon water storage tank in Bluffton. These projects are on track for completion in 2025.
“If consumers adhere to the proposed water usage schedule, it will ease the strain on the water resources, while BJWSA continues to work towards ensuring water availability for all its users in the long run,” stated a representative from BJWSA.
Residents are encouraged to comply with the outlined water use schedule to help conserve water for both communal and environmental sustainability. Water is a crucial, finite resource that needs to be preserved meticulously for future generations.
