Beaufort Welcomes Raul Dominguez as New Capital Improvement Director

Beaufort Hires New Capital Improvement Director

Beaufort is buzzing with excitement as it officially welcomed Raul Dominguez as its new director of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) on Monday, September 30. With his extensive experience in professional services, construction, and engineering, Dominguez is set to play a pivotal role in overseeing the city’s various capital projects.

A Local at Heart

The great news is that Raul isn’t just another hired hand; he’s a proud resident of Beaufort! Moving from his most recent position as the manager of daily operations for the Indigo Run Community Owners Association on the Town of Hilton Head Island, Dominguez brings with him a wealth of experience. At Indigo Run, he led a team of three staff members and was involved in essential tasks like facilities management, stormwater management, budgeting, and purchasing. Talk about juggling multiple hats!

Words from the City Manager

City Manager Scott Marshall couldn’t be more thrilled about the addition of Dominguez to the city team. In a news release, Marshall expressed, “We feel fortunate that Raul is joining our team. His expertise, familiarity with local industry partners, and professionalism are the perfect combination to lead our Capital Projects at a time when we have several complex projects underway and pending.” Isn’t it encouraging to see local leadership being recognized for their contributions?

What’s Next for the Capital Improvement Program?

So, what exactly does a Capital Improvement Program director do? Well, Dominguez will oversee a dedicated team that includes members from Finance, Public Works, and Downtown Operations. Together, they will meet regularly to keep track of the progress on various projects. Dominguez plans to formalize the CIP by implementing best practices, which is delightful news for Beaufort as it looks to enhance its capital project processes. He will be the one steering projects from their early conception right through to final completion.

Engaging the Community

One of Dominguez’s priorities is to foster closer communication with the community. He aims to engage with residents and various neighborhoods to ensure that future capital improvement projects reflect the needs and desires of the people they serve. After all, when it comes to our community, your voice matters! Additional resident engagement will be crucial as the CIP moves forward, providing an avenue for the public to share their thoughts and ideas.

Teaming Up with Project Support

Dominguez will also be working alongside Carrie Gorsuch, the project support coordinator. Together, they will tackle contracting, budgeting, schedules, work plans, and especially cost estimates. With a powerhouse duo like that, residents can expect ongoing transparency in the budgeting process and project execution.

A Glimpse into Dominguez’s Background

Before making strides at Indigo Run, Raul held noteworthy positions, including managing operations at Port Royal Plantation and serving as property manager at High Tide Associates. His rich background even includes serving 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he earned the esteemed Navy Achievement Medal. His array of experiences showcases his strong leadership abilities and commitment to excellence.

Looking Ahead

As Beaufort embraces this new chapter with Raul Dominguez at the helm of the Capital Improvement Program, the excitement is palpable. With plans for deliciously detailed improvements and an added focus on community input, residents can look forward to a more robust and engaging process. Dominguez himself expressed his eagerness, stating, “I’m excited about joining the team in Beaufort. I plan to get caught up quickly, and, with the team, get the Capital Improvement Program in strong shape.”

As the city gears up for the future, it’s clear that the combined efforts of dedicated leaders like Raul Dominguez will play a significant role in shaping the Beaufort we all know and love.
