Beaufort County Braces for Potential Rain as Tropical Storm Rafael Develops

Hello Beaufort! As many of us settle into the week ahead, it’s important to keep an eye on what’s brewing out in the Caribbean. A tropical system, known as Tropical Depression 18, is picking up steam and is expected to become Tropical Storm Rafael as it moves northwestward toward Cuba. While it’s likely we won’t see any direct impacts here in Beaufort County, we might still be in for some soggy weather later in the week.

What to Expect This Week

The National Hurricane Center has been tracking this strengthening storm closely, and the latest updates suggest that while there’s no immediate threat to our beautiful East Coast, moisture being pushed from this system could bring heavy rainfall to our area by midweek. Forecasts indicate that our best chance for showers in Beaufort is on Wednesday and Thursday. So, if you have outdoor plans, you might want to keep an ever-watchful eye on the skies!

As for right now, the beginning of the week looks fairly pleasant. On Tuesday, there is a 30% chance of showers before early afternoon, with temperatures reaching up to the high 70s under mostly sunny skies. Not too shabby!

Midweek Weather Changes

Then comes Wednesday, when the rain likely kicks in. Forecasters predict a 30% chance of showers after 1 PM, and the day may be cloudy with a high hovering around 81 degrees. So, bring an umbrella if you’re heading out!

Thursday seems to be the day when things get a little wetter, with a 60% chance of rain expected mainly after 1 PM. If you’re thinking about that golf game or beach trip, it might be wise to look for an indoor activity instead as this day brings a high of around 77 degrees.

Good News Ahead!

As we head into the weekend, the weather is looking friendlier! Friday brings only a 20% chance of showers, with some sunshine peeking through and temperatures around 78 degrees. And by Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 78, while Sunday keeps with the trend and offers partly sunny weather with a high near 79. What a great way to wrap up the week!

Stay Updated!

Even though the storm’s path is not expected to affect Beaufort County directly, keep in mind that it’s always smart to stay informed. Hurricane season officially wraps up on November 30, but as we’ve seen in past years, tropical activity can stretch into December. Experts are already predicting an above-average 2024 hurricane season, with more than 20 named storms expected. Rafael could mark the 17th named storm of the year, surpassing the average of 14.

In summary, while Tropical Storm Rafael doesn’t pose a direct threat to our shores, it’s a good idea to prepare for some rain in the coming days. Let’s enjoy the sunshine while we can and remain vigilant as the weather changes. Have a fantastic week ahead, Beaufort!
