Beaufort Welcomes the Holiday Spirit with a Special Teddy Bear Picnic!
This Saturday, December 21, Beaufort will be buzzing with excitement as the DAYLO (Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization) hosts a delightful holiday event at the Beaufort County Main Library, located at 311 Scott Street. From 1 to 3 p.m., families are invited to join in on a festive Teddy Bear Picnic, where the joy of reading and community comes together in a heartwarming way!
All Aboard the Reading Train!
High school and college student volunteers from the local DAYLO chapters have teamed up with the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center to create an unforgettable afternoon dedicated to literacy and inclusion. Participants will enjoy read-aloud sessions featuring a delightful selection of diverse and inclusive picture books, sure to capture the attention of children and make them smile. And let’s not forget about the special holiday-themed books that are sure to get everyone into the festive mood!
A Cozy Atmosphere Awaits
The library will be transformed into a cozy haven, complete with plenty of soft blankets for families to snuggle on, surrounded by a multitude of adorable stuffed animals. It’s the perfect setup for a memorable family outing, encouraging a love for reading in a relaxed and welcoming environment!
What is DAYLO?
For those who may not be familiar, DAYLO is a vibrant, student-led organization that focuses on promoting diversity through literature. Originally founded at Beaufort High School, DAYLO has blossomed and now boasts chapters across South Carolina. It serves not only as a book club but also as a community service group, aiming to enhance literacy skills among children while celebrating the beauty of diverse stories.
