Sponsor Our ArticlesBeaufort High School basketball teams have experienced a range of highs and lows recently. Beaufort High School records two significant wins, Battery Creek faces challenges, and Whale Branch shows potential with recent victories. Meanwhile, teams like John Paul II and Holy Trinity aim for redemption after tough losses. Despite mixed results, local athletes continue to inspire community support. With playoffs approaching, spirits remain high in Beaufort, promising an exciting finish to the season.
In the bustling city of Beaufort, excitement is in the air as high school basketball teams gear up for the postseason. With notable wins and heartbreaking losses, the local teams have had a mix of challenges and triumphs recently. Let’s break down the action from last week!
First off, let’s talk about Beaufort High School. This team has been on fire! They recorded two impressive victories last week, beating Hilton Head not once, but twice. On February 11, they secured a solid win with a score of 51-43. Just two days later, they followed up with another tight game, emerging victorious at 50-44 against the same rival. With a current season record of 15-8 and an impressive 8-2 in Region 6-4A, the team is bubbling with confidence as they head into the postseason.
Circle February 18 on your calendar—Beaufort is set to face Airport in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. This game is sure to be a nail-biter, so make sure to cheer them on!
On the flip side, it wasn’t a great week for Battery Creek, which didn’t have any games scheduled. They have struggled this season with a record of 5-16 and are sitting at 2-6 in Region 6-3A. Unfortunately, their postseason journey ended early with a tough 32-71 loss to Loris on February 17. It’s been a tough road for the team, but they’re sure to bounce back in the coming seasons.
Meanwhile, Bridges Prep also faced setbacks last week. They dropped two games to Hampton County and Barnwell, finishing with scores of 28-63 and 25-53, respectively. Ending the season with a record of 4-15 and 3-7 in Region 5-2A means they did not qualify for the postseason. It’s been a challenging season for them, but their hard work and determination surely lay a foundation for future success.
On a brighter note, Whale Branch had a great week, winning both of their games! They squeezed past Barnwell with a close win at 27-22 on February 11 and followed up with another victory against Edisto, finishing at 26-17. However, their postseason came to a halt with a loss to Kingstree, where they finished with a score of 23-42. Ending the season with a record of 10-11 and 6-4 in Region 5-2A shows that they have potential for improvement.
Over at John Paul II, the team faced a setback with a tough loss against Trinity Collegiate, finishing at 44-65 on February 11. With a current record of 19-6 and 6-2 in SCISA 3-4A, they’re looking to redeem themselves in their upcoming postseason matchup against Airport on February 18.
Things weren’t much better for Holy Trinity, which lost to Cross Schools by a staggering score of 29-69. With a season record of 5-10 and 2-4 in SCISA 3-2A, they also faced an early postseason exit with a loss to Charleston Collegiate, ending their run at 28-65 on February 14.
On another note, a total of 67 wrestlers from the LowcoSports coverage area took part in a recent wrestling event, showcasing the athletic talent in our community. Additionally, six of the ten wrestlers from John Paul II competed, highlighting their dedication outside the basketball court.
For those looking to support local sports, don’t forget that Beaufort County TV (BCTV) plans to broadcast two live high school sporting events this week. And for something completely different, Beaufort’s Club Karate is ready to host its 31st annual Goodwill Tournament—a fun event for families!
All in all, while some teams are gearing up for playoff glory, others are already thinking ahead to next season. Whatever the outcome, the spirit of community and support for our local athletes shines through!
