The festivities will commence on February 18, starting with a special reception at the University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts at 5:30 p.m. Following the reception, the popular Beaufort Symphony Orchestra will treat attendees to a melodic evening with a concert titled “A Classic Night of Movie Music” at 8 p.m. It’s shaping up to be an evening for the history books!

The Film Selection Process

This year, festival organizers sifted through a whopping 500 submissions from 33 countries to curate a lineup of 54 films and five screenplays. That means only the best of the best made the cut, with just 10% of submitted films earning a spot in the festival. The diverse selection includes feature films, documentaries, short films, student films, animation, and much more. Viewers will discover a range of genres, from lighthearted comedies about love and relationships to thought-provoking narratives that share personal stories from history.

Daily Screenings and Workshops

Mark your calendars! Starting February 19, daily film screenings begin at 9 a.m., with the final block showcasing films at 7:30 p.m.. And here’s a treat for aspiring writers—on February 20, a free one-hour screenwriters workshop will be held at 5 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the craft of screenwriting directly from the industry’s best.

Closing with a Flair

The festival will wrap up on February 23 with an awards ceremony set to kick off at 3 p.m. after a delightful cocktail reception. Awards will be presented for categories such as Best Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best Animation. Among the exciting honors, Tim Gray will be celebrated with the inaugural Legends & Legacies Award for his remarkable contributions to documentary filmmaking, particularly for his extensive work on World War II films.

Special Screenings and Honorees

Film enthusiasts can catch a special screening of Gray’s documentary, “A Final Landing on Iwo Jima”, on February 21 at 3:20 p.m., followed by a Q&A session. Additionally, Lee Donaldson will be honored with the Behind the Scenes award for his impressive work in the film industry as a camera operator, producer, and director.
