In the charming city of Beaufort, something truly remarkable has happened that deserves a spotlight! At the fourth quarter meeting of 100 Women Who Care (WWC) held in October, three nonprofit organizations presented their needs, and after careful consideration, the members made a big-hearted choice. They decided to support the Helianthus Project, a nonprofit dedicated to helping minor and youth victims of human trafficking in the Lowcountry.
The mission of the Helianthus Project is critical: they provide essential support and education on human trafficking to both the local community and local businesses. They don’t just stop there! They work in tandem with the S.C. State Human Trafficking Taskforce and the Lowcountry Human Trafficking Taskforce to focus on important areas like resource allocation and financial assistance for victims. The need for such support in the community emphasizes the importance of awareness and prevention.
During a heartwarming moment in November, Laura Riski, the coordinator of the Beaufort chapter of WWC, presented Rachel McBride, the founder and executive director of the Helianthus Project, with an incredible check for $12,400. This generous sum is earmarked to help get their new Advocacy Program off the ground. The goal? To create a certified Advocate who will be on hand to guide and support victims and their families.
This Advocacy Program is set to make a real difference! Advocates will work closely with victims to offer emotional support, guidance, and much-needed resources. They will not only assist in providing crucial emotional reinforcement but also help families with necessary financial assistance. This actionable support will cover essential needs such as:
With this program, the Helianthus Project aims to create a nurturing environment that emphasizes recovery and healing for victims and their families. It’s all about building lives again after traumatic experiences.
In a broader context, the 100 Women Who Care initiative has made a significant impact in Northern Beaufort County. As of now, they have surpassed the $500,000 mark in donations to local nonprofits! By gathering over 100 local women who contribute $100 each, they’ve created a powerful network of support that uplifts many organizations. If you’re moving to Beaufort or are simply interested in how you can get involved, make sure to check out their website at www.100wwcbeaufort.org.
Are you interested in knowing more about the Helianthus Project and how you can lend your support? They have a dedicated site too which can be checked at www.thehelianthusproject.org where you can find more information on their initiatives and how to get involved. It’s amazing to see a community coming together to make strides against such serious issues!
As the holiday season is fast approaching, Beaufort is buzzing with excitement! The annual Thanksgiving service and dinner, now in its 45th year, is just around the corner, promising a heartwarming gathering for all.
As we enjoy this festive season, let’s remember the incredible efforts of community groups like 100 Women Who Care and the Helianthus Project. Together, they are making strides to improve the lives of so many, proving that compassion and action can truly work wonders. Let’s continue to spread awareness and support those in need, showing that the kind spirit of Beaufort is alive and thriving!
