Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Celebrates Black History Month with Special Veterans Program

A Salute to Service: “Preserving the Legacy and Keeping the Promise”

In an inspiring fusion of remembrance and celebration, Beaufort County Veterans Affairs, in collaboration with the Technical College of the Lowcountry Student Veterans of America, will be hosting a Black History Month Program on Wednesday, February 28th. The event, aimed at honoring the service and sacrifices of African American veterans, is a fitting tribute during Black History Month and a testament to the rich and diverse tapestry of American military history.

An Honor to Veterans

The commemorative program will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the TCL Auditorium, Building 12, located at 921 Ribaut Road, Beaufort. Under the theme, “Preserving the Legacy and Keeping the Promise”, this event aims to highlight the significant contributions and service of African American veterans throughout history.

The Master of Ceremony will be James E. Moore, a distinguished Sgt. Major, and the lineup of guest speakers includes exceptional representatives from renowned African American military legacies. USMC (Ret.), Mitch Mitchell, a brigadier general from the USAF (Ret.), will be speaking on behalf of the commendable Tuskegee Airmen. In addition, the audience will be graced by the insights of Tyrone Jackson, a master gunnery sergeant from the USMC (Ret.), who will be representing the esteemed Montford Point Marines.

A Blend of Patriotism and Culture

Adding to the honor and grandeur of the occasion, the Whale Branch Early College High School JROTC Color Guard has been selected to post the colors. Faith Polite, a local talent, will bless the event with her rendition of the National Anthem.

The Black History Month Veterans Program, being free and open to the public, encourages citizens, veterans, and military enthusiasts alike to attend and show their respect or gratitude. This occasion is not just an acknowledgment of African American service members’ accomplishments and sacrifices but also a reaffirmation of the progression of equality and inclusivity in the U.S. Military.
