Beaufort County School District Assigns Four New Principals for Upcoming School Year

The Beaufort County School District has recently announced the appointment of four new principals for the forthcoming school year which is set to commence on August 7. These veteran administrators are advancing to leadership positions at four of the district’s schools.

Appointments and Background

The newly appointed principals were selected internally by Superintendent Frank Rodriguez. “Every exceptional district possesses strong school leaders, and I’m thrilled to witness these exemplary educators thrive in their new roles,” expressed Rodriguez. He added, “They’re seasoned, cognizant of the vital role in shaping a school culture propelling academic achievement while ensuring our students succeed.”

Jamie Allen

Jamie Allen is set to take the helm at Broad River Elementary School. With an educational career boasting 18 years of service in the Beaufort County School District, Allen is primed to succeed in her new role. Allen’s tenure goes back to 2006 when she began as a third-grade teacher at the same school. She later held positions of a literacy interventionist, TAP mentor/master teacher and assistant principal. Allen, an alum of the University of South Carolina Beaufort, holds an education specialist degree in educational leadership as well as a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction emphasizing literacy.

Brantley Wilson

Brantley Wilson will assume the role of principal at Whale Branch Middle School, where he replaces Jamie Allen. Wilson served in various roles, including Mentor/Counselor for At-Risk Youth, Alternative Classroom Coordinator, and CATE Compliance Coordinator during his tenure at the Beaufort Jasper Academy for Career Excellence. An alum of the American College of Education, he holds a master’s degree in educational leadership.

Sonji Leach

Sonji Leach is the newly designated principal at Whale Branch Early College High School. She was formerly the assistant principal at Beaufort High School. Leach has an extensive administrative background, having served in principal roles at Swainsboro High School and Southwest Middle School in Georgia, along with several interim principal positions in Savannah and Columbia. Leach holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Atlanta.

Keith Stewart

Keith Stewart will take charge as the principal of Bluffton Middle School. Prior to this appointment, Stewart had been the assistant principal at the same school. His educational career traverses positions such as a physical education teacher and department chair at various schools within the Beaufort County. Stewart has a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.

Selection Process

The district conducted detailed interviews with a membership committee comprising of teacher leaders, School Improvement Council members, human resources representatives, and student leaders (for high school principal positions). After each interview, the candidates were rated by the committee members and Superintendent Rodriguez made the final recommendations to the Board of Education.

These appointments come as an integral part of the district’s preparation for the new school year, with each appointment reflecting the district’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and student success. With the backgrounds and experience brought by each of these administrators to their new roles, the Beaufort County School District appears well-positioned for the upcoming academic year.
