Beaufort County is stepping up to support its veterans with a wonderful opportunity! A free clinic is being offered to help veterans draft essential legal documents like wills and powers of attorney. This event is being organized in partnership with Lowcountry Legal Volunteers and is set to take place on Friday, October 18th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the AMVETS Post #70 located at 1831 Ribaut Road, Port Royal.
It’s no secret that end-of-life planning can be a daunting task, and that’s where this clinic comes in handy. Caroline Fermin, the Veterans Affairs Director for Beaufort County, shared her thoughts on the significance of this event: “End of life planning is incredibly important. Being able to offer the service free of charge, answer any and all questions our veterans might have, and knowing they will leave the clinic prepared with either a will or power of attorney, is one more service we are proud to offer our veteran population here in Beaufort County.”
This is an excellent chance for veterans and their dependents to get help in an area that’s often not addressed until it’s too late. Having these documents in place can provide peace of mind and ensure that your wishes are known and respected when the time comes.
If you’re a veteran or know a veteran who could benefit from this clinic, it’s important to note that registration is required to attend. You can easily sign up by visiting lowcountrylegalvolunteers.org, or you can give them a call at 843-815-1570 to secure your spot.
This clinic is just one of the many ways that the Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Office assists veterans, their spouses, and other dependents. They work hard to provide access to various government programs that eligible veterans can benefit from. If you’re looking for more personalized assistance, Veterans Affairs Counselors are available and can be reached by calling 843-255-6880. Keep in mind that appointments are required for their services.
For veterans looking to navigate their benefits further, the Federal Benefits Handbook for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors is a valuable resource. You can obtain it by visiting www.va.gov, which serves as a wealth of information for those who have served our country.
It’s heartening to see initiatives like this that genuinely care for veterans and their families. Offering such crucial services for free is a wonderful way to support those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Mark your calendars for October 18th, and make sure to spread the word among your fellow veterans. Together, we can help ensure that every veteran in Beaufort County is ready for the future and has their wishes documented and respected.
