June 5, 2024, Beaufort County – Major road repairs and paving projects are set to begin in Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, as part of the annual initiatives by Beaufort County to improve road infrastructure and ensure smooth transit for residents and visitors in these areas. The projects, fully funded by the County Transportation Committee, are scheduled to kick-start on Wednesday, June 12.
During the construction period, residents are kindly requested not to park their vehicles on the streets to facilitate smooth operations. The construction work will be executed primarily during daytime, specifically between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. The planned duration for these undertakings is approximately three weeks, depending on weather conditions and field situations, which may induce changes to the schedule.
Motorists are being urged to exercise extra caution when traversing the work zones. Flaggers will be strategically placed in each of these zones to direct and manage traffic effectively. The aim is to minimize any disruptions or accidents that may arise due to the ongoing road works.
The road projects have been divided into several clusters based on location and nature of work. In Hilton Head, the projects have been grouped into three clusters and are expected to last approximately two weeks.
The first cluster includes Avocet Road, Curlew Street, Egret Street, Gannet Street, Park Road, Ibis Street, Flamingo Street, Bittern Street, Heron Street, Dove Street and Dune Lane. The second and third clusters encompass Sand Dollar Road, Murray Avenue, Rebeccas Circle, Shamrock Circle, and Blue Bell Lane respectively.
In Bluffton, the road projects have been categorized into one cluster which is predicted to be completed in roughly one week. Lake Linden Court, Lake Linden Place, Fisherman Lane, and Wellington Court are included in this cluster.
