In a significant development towards community welfare, Beaufort County announced a partnership with the town of Bluffton and Beaufort Memorial Hospital with an aim to enhance the infrastructure for affordable housing and medical care. The partnership kicked off in late May and has since spawned a promising development project, strategized to create affordable workforce housing and a state-of-the-art medical office space.
The focus of the project is a property, currently under the stewardship of the St. Andre By-The-Sea United Methodist Church on Hilton Head. Situated at 333 and 335 Buckwalter Parkway, the property is expected to feature approximately 125 to 150 housing units with affordable prices and a 25,000-square-foot medical office space. The office space is intended for the use of Beaufort Memorial for providing its medical services to the community.
“This project addresses one of the most pressing needs in our community. We are immensely grateful for this collaborative opportunity.” said the CEO of Beaufort Memorial Hospital. The county has also ensured that the workforce housing will be open to the public.
The property deal was secured through an amicable agreement with the Hilton Head church which offered the land at a reduced price for the development of this project. The church expressed its enthusiasm and support for the project, which aligns with their vision of community welfare.
The town of Bluffton has also shown solidarity with the project, with its Affordable Housing Committee reviewing and approving the plans, thereby giving more credence to the community-driven solution.
The St. Andrew By-The-Sea Church has had a long history of serving the Beaufort County community through various initiatives, thereby fortifying trust in this collaborative effort.
While the officials have refrained from releasing a specific timeline for the project, the commitment from all stakeholders assures the community that this project aligns with their best interests. As of now, deliberations and planning continue towards making healthcare more accessible and affordable housing a reality in Bluffton.
