In a tragic incident in Beaufort County on Tuesday night, one person died following a single-vehicle collision. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the accident.
At approximately 11:01 PM on Tuesday night, a serious motor accident occurred on Brickyard Point Road North near Ferguson Drive, about 3.2 miles east of Beaufort. According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, the single-vehicle collision involved a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The Chevrolet was reportedly traveling east on Brickyard Point Road North. In circumstances yet to be made clear, the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, then overcorrected, causing it to veer off the roadway to the right where it overturned.
The Chevrolet pickup truck was solely occupied by the driver, who was unfortunately pronounced dead at the accident scene. As of this report, the victim’s identity has not been released by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office. All due process in accordance with state law will take place before this happens.
Authorities are keenly investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate accident. Local residents with any information that may help in this investigation are urged to come forward and contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol. These tragic incidents underscore the need for road users to exercise utmost care and follow traffic rules to avert loss of lives.
While the Beaufort County community works to rally around this tragic event, other events in the region have also caused alarm. Recent crime sprees in West Ashley led to one man’s arrest on twelve charges, and elsewhere, a shooting investigation that resulted in one person being injured in Moncks Corner. Traffic incidents, including another collision on Don Holt bridge and a tractor-trailer fire on I-526 near Long Point Exit, further highlighted the series of unfortunate events plaguing the region.
Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy. It’s a painful reminder that we must always exercise caution when on the road. Authorities will continue investigating the cause of the accident and hopefully, this will provide closure and answers to the victim’s family.
