Beaufort Celebrates Another Heartwarming Wreaths Across America Event
This holiday season, Beaufort has once again shown the strength of its community spirit with the successful execution of its Wreaths Across America event. Coordinated by the dedicated David Edwards, this year’s ceremony marked a milestone as it was the fifth consecutive year the group managed to lay a Remembrance Wreath on every single headstone at the Beaufort National Cemetery. Now that’s what we call teamwork and commitment!
Counting the Volunteers
Under a brilliantly sunny sky, over 3,500 enthusiastic volunteers turned out on December 14 to make this heartwarming event possible. The scene was bustling with more than 168 motorcycles and four trucks loaded up with fresh wreaths, ready to honor the brave men and women resting in peace. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together for a common cause, isn’t it?
“I like the way everything went,” said Edwards radiating joy. “The weather was perfect, there were enough volunteers, and enough assistance.” It sounds like a recipe for success if you ask us!
What’s Next?
But hold your horses! The hard work isn’t quite finished yet. The wreaths that adorned the headstones will be retired on Saturday, January 11 at 8 a.m. As Edwards pointed out, “Volunteers will be needed for that, as well.” And here’s a little nugget of information: Waste Pro will help with the disposal of the wreaths, ensuring everything is taken care of smoothly.
How to Get Involved
If you’re interested in getting involved in next year’s event, mark your calendars! Between now and January 15, any orders made for wreaths will be matched by Wreaths Across America. To sponsor a Remembrance Wreath, which costs just $17, a simple scan of the QR code on Wreaths Across America Beaufort’s Facebook page or a visit to their website at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/GA0175P will do the trick. Using that specific code ensures your wreaths will find their way directly to Beaufort!
A Mission with Heart
Wreaths Across America Beaufort has been on a mission for 19 years to ensure all 28,000 veteran heroes buried in Beaufort National Cemetery receive a Remembrance Wreath during the holiday season. This incredible initiative is part of a larger nonprofit organization that began in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, whose mission can be summed up in three powerful words: Remember, Honor, Teach. The organization hosts wreath-laying ceremonies each December at Arlington National Cemetery and at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and locations across all 50 states and beyond!
A Steady Hand
With all this love and dedication, it’s no surprise that Edwards has no plans to step away anytime soon. As the event gears up for its 20th anniversary, Edwards declares, “It means a lot to me. Those are my brothers and sisters out there.” It’s clear his passion for honoring these heroes runs deep.
For anyone looking to contribute to such a wonderful cause, now is the time to get involved! With the community’s dedication and the spirit of giving, next year’s Wreaths Across America Day promises to be even more extraordinary.
