Savannah's New Deathless Food Truck Set to Revolutionize Vegan Cuisine

Savannah Welcomes the Innovative Deathless Food Truck

In the vibrant city of Savannah, a delightful addition to the local culinary scene is on the horizon. The Deathless Food Truck, founded by Gretchen and Logan Needy, is set to roll out its delicious vegan street food after years of planning and perseverance. Their journey began two years ago when they first moved to Savannah, bringing with them a dream that has finally begun to take shape.

A Journey of Passion

Gretchen and Logan’s journey into the world of vegan cuisine is not what you might expect. Surprisingly, neither of them has been a lifelong vegan. Logan made the switch to a meat-free diet eight years ago, while Gretchen participates in plant-based eating when she can. This personal understanding of both sides of the dietary spectrum makes their approach to vegan food refreshingly relatable.

Logan, a seasoned chef with 17 years of experience in professional kitchens, uncovered a passion for plant-based cooking after researching the environmental impact of animal farming. “It pushed some justice buttons for him,” Gretchen explained, highlighting his determination to create food that aligns with his values.

Challenges Along the Way

Although their food truck was fully equipped from the start, various challenges hindered their ability to hit the road. From the necessary red tape to finding a suitable commissary kitchen, it hadn’t been an easy ride. However, a fortunate partnership with James and Liz Massey of Two Tides Brewing Co. came to the rescue. When Liz reached out via Instagram, a “little buddy partnership” was born. As soon as The Laundry Diner opens later this year, the Needys will park their food truck outside and use the restaurant’s kitchen as their operational base. “Our timeline is mirroring their timeline,” Gretchen shared, underscoring the mutually beneficial nature of their collaboration.

Serving Global Flavors

Deathless Food Truck is set to offer a unique menu inspired by the diverse culinary experiences the Needys encountered during their travels around the world. Their offerings include a mouthwatering spicy basil fried rice burrito, which is a fusion of Thai, Latin, and American flavors, featuring French fries for that extra crunch. The Needys take pride in using local produce as much as possible, reflecting their commitment to freshness and community support.

Among their standout dishes, the Noodz bowl has swiftly become a crowd favorite. Packed with nourishing ingredients like oyster mushrooms, bok choy, and a well-balanced spicy sauce, it’s a flavorful, satisfying dish that surprises even non-vegans. Another popular item is the Birria Crunchwrap, which substitutes jackfruit for shredded chicken, bringing together layers of texture and taste that are hard to resist.

Looking Ahead

Once The Laundry Diner opens, the Needys plan to expand their offerings further by introducing their vegan meal kits for families, similar to a vegan HelloFresh. These kits will cater to busy households looking for easily prepared, healthy meals. “Ready-to-go dinners, like Vegan HelloFresh, only way better,” Gretchen enthused, hinting at the delicious options in store for local families.

As the Needys finalize their preparations, they continue to host pop-up events, including a recent successful residency at Origin Coffee Bar. “We’re so thankful because they have provided us a space to do some pop-ups and gave Logan a job,” Gretchen reflected on the support they have received throughout their journey.

Conclusion

The Deathless Food Truck is more than just a food venture; it’s a reflection of the Needys’ dedication to providing delicious, considerate, and sustainable food options in Savannah. With their wheels set for good times ahead, the community is buzzing with anticipation for the flavorful vegan offerings that are coming soon. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting culinary experience that embraces plant-based goodness with every bite!
