Bluffton Celebrates 20 Years of Art and Seafood Festival
Bluffton, a charming town known for its stunning Lowcountry scenery and rich history, is buzzing with excitement as the Bluffton Art and Seafood Festival kicks off its 20th anniversary celebration! This year, the festival runs through October 20, offering a fantastic array of events, art showcases, and, of course, delicious seafood.
A Dream that Grew
The festival’s journey began two decades ago as a modest one-day event, and it’s truly remarkable how it has blossomed into a vibrant 20-day celebration in historic Bluffton. According to a festival spokesperson, this is “a true celebration of fine art and the bounty of the sea!” Indeed, the festival pays homage to the local arts, history, and culture while providing an insightful look at how the region’s seafood is harvested.
Upcoming Thrills
As the festival progresses, attendees can look forward to some very special events. Highlighting the schedule is the Blessing of the Fleet on October 13 at 4 p.m. This long-standing tradition honors the local fishermen and their vessels, ensuring a safe and fruitful season ahead.
Art enthusiasts will not want to miss the Showcase of Local Art taking place at various galleries and an outdoor art exhibit at Martin Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Old Town Bluffton. It will be a fantastic opportunity to meet local artists and take in some stunning creations!
And for those who relish the taste of fresh oysters, the first oyster roast of the season is set to kick off at Bluffton Oyster Park starting at 5 p.m. It promises to be a delightful evening full of laughter, good company, and mouthwatering seafood.
Educational Opportunities
Mark your calendars for October 14 from 4:40 p.m. to 6 p.m., when the Dinner & Learn event takes place at the Waddell Mariculture Center and the Bluffton Seafood House. This educational gathering will spotlight the area’s valuable natural resources and the crucial conservation practices required to sustain them for future generations.
Authors and Arts
Literature lovers should plan to attend Author Night on October 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rotary Community Center in Oscar Frazier Park. This event features several talented authors, including Dr. Carolyn Grant, Thomas Barnwell, and Emory Shaw Campbell, who will discuss their book, Gullah Days: Hilton Head Islanders Before the Bridge 1861-1956.
Street Fest Spectacular
The excitement culminates with the Outdoor Street Fest on October 19 and 20, where Calhoun Street will transform into an artist showcase and market featuring over 100 artists from 10 different states. It’s a chance to stroll through beautiful artistic displays while savoring the diverse offerings of local restaurants, food trucks, and caterers, all serving up delightful seafood and Lowcountry cuisine. Live musical performances promise to energize the atmosphere throughout the day!

There’s no shortage of activities during the festival, with daily boat and history tours, the Bluffton State of Mind Supper Soiree, oyster farm tours, and Bluffton Self Help’s Sips and the Seafood Party at Hewitt Oaks. Factors like community engagement and family fun are highly appreciated as the festival caters to all ages with the Saturday morning Old Town Oyster 10K and 5K run, CCA’s Children’s Fishing Tournament, and children’s art activities in the park.
