Beaufort County Libraries Extend a Helping Hand to Hurricane Helene Victims

Beaufort, S.C. – In these challenging times, the Beaufort County Library has stepped up to support those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Understanding that the storm has brought unexpected hardships, the library is offering a temporary waiver of the $40 “non-resident card” fee. This initiative aims to assist individuals who have been displaced from their homes while they navigate their recovery path.

A Library Card for Comfort

Residents from areas affected by Hurricane Helene can apply for this special library card which will be valid for one year. With this card, those individuals will gain access to a treasure trove of library resources including books, digital services, workshops, and community events designed to create a sense of comfort and connection.

“All across the Lowcountry, communities are coming together to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene,” said a spokesperson for the library. “This is something our library can do to provide comfort and connection while people are away from home.”

Who is Eligible?

If you’re currently residing temporarily in Beaufort County and were displaced due to the hurricane, you may be eligible for this library card. All you need to do is provide:

  1. Your ID and current address from your home state.
  2. The address of your temporary residence in Beaufort County (this could be an AirBNB, hotel, or a relative’s house).

This generous offer is an extension of the usual policy where library cards are free to Beaufort County residents ages 4 and older, making it even easier for individuals facing tough circumstances to access the library’s resources.

More Than Just Books

Libraries have transformed over the years. They’re not just places filled with books anymore. Instead, they’re vibrant community hubs offering a range of services.
