Chatham Area Transit Service Suspension Due to Weather

In Chatham, residents are advised to prepare for a significant shift in transportation availability this Friday, September 27, 2024. As the weather conditions associated with Hurricane Helene approach the area, Chatham Area Transit (CAT) has made the decision to suspend all of its services for the safety of both riders and staff. This includes the suspension of Fixed-Route services, Paratransit Mobility, the Savannah Belles Ferry, the DOT Shuttle, and CAT Connect.

What to Expect on Friday

On Friday, not only will transit services be unavailable, but all CAT facilities will also remain closed to the public. This means riders will not be able to access stations or customer service in person. However, riders who rely on Paratransit Mobility can still make reservations by calling 912-233-5767 during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alternatively, reservations can be requested online through CAT’s user-friendly reservation system.

Saturday Services and Updates

As for services on Saturday, September 28, CAT crews will continue to assess the conditions of the routes and determine if operations can safely resume. Riders are encouraged to stay connected and keep informed about any updates that may affect their travel plans. Information regarding service changes or reinstatements will be communicated through CAT’s various platforms. To get real-time updates, riders can subscribe to CAT’s text alert system by texting RIDECAT to 912-733-4830.

Staying Safe During Hurricane Helene

It’s always a good idea to stay safe and be prepared during severe weather conditions. Whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or just planning your day, it’s crucial to have a backup plan in place. With services temporarily suspended, residents are advised to explore alternative transportation methods, if necessary, and to always prioritize safety during the storm.

Community Support and Feedback

As a resident of Chatham, it’s wonderful to witness the community coming together during challenging times. If you have stories, tips, or advice for fellow community members on navigating the situation or staying safe during the storm, consider sharing your experiences. Community feedback is vital during such events, so don’t hesitate to reach out through CAT’s channels or any community forums.

Looking Forward

While the service disruptions can be inconvenient, it’s essential to remember that protecting the safety of riders and employees is the top priority. As updates are made available, residents are encouraged to show patience and understanding during this trying time. Once the weather clears up, we look forward to getting back to normal transit operations and seeing our streets filled with CAT buses once again.

Stay safe, stay informed, and let’s help each other through the storm!
