Beaufort County Prepares for Eighth Annual Walk for Water to Address Global Water Crisis

Community Walk for Water

Beaufort County Gears Up for the Eighth Annual Walk for Water

Beaufort, SC – Mark your calendars! The eighth annual Beaufort County Walk for Water is happening soon, bringing together the community for an important cause. On Saturday, September 14, at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal, and again on Saturday, September 21, at Wright Family Park in Bluffton, we’re expecting around 1,000 walkers to come together to raise a whopping $100,000 in support of access to clean, safe water.

This vibrant event not only aims to raise funds but also seeks to raise awareness about the global water crisis affecting millions around the world. All proceeds from the walk will benefit Water Mission, a fantastic nonprofit organization based in Charleston that focuses on providing sustainable water solutions for communities in need, whether they’re in developing countries or suffering from disasters.

Making History One Step at a Time

Last year’s event was nothing short of extraordinary, as it welcomed over 700 registered participants on both sides of the Beaufort River. Robert Lasher, the committee chair for the Walk for Water, expressed his excitement about this year’s Event. “The participation we see from the community makes a life-changing difference for thousands of people in desperate need of clean water,” Lasher said.

Every Dollar Counts

So why is every penny valuable? According to Lasher, “As little as $50 can provide one person with ongoing access to safe, clean water.” Just think about it! With $500, a community could gain proper latrine sanitation, and for a little over $1,000, solar panels could be installed to provide a power source. This is how impactful your donations can be!

A Walk with Purpose

Participants will have the opportunity to experience the physical challenge of water collection during the event. Throughout the 3-mile walk, everyone is encouraged to carry a bucket of water. This symbolic act represents the daily struggle many women and children face in developing countries as they fetch water from often contaminated sources.

It’s staggering to think about the urgency of the global water crisis. A person dies from a water-related illness every 37 seconds somewhere in the world. This hard-hitting fact highlights the urgency of the cause and demonstrates the truly life-saving nature of the funds raised.

Get Involved!

Registration is currently open on the Walk for Water website at walkforwater.com/beaufort. It’s just $25 for adults ages 18 and up, $10 for youths ages 5-17, and free for children under 4. Each entry helps in the fight for safe water and brings us one step closer to achieving our fundraising goal.
