Savannah Philharmonic Welcomes JoAnna Ferrer as 2024-25 Concertmaster

The year 2024 rings in a new era of music in Savannah as the Savannah Philharmonic proudly announces the appointment of JoAnna Farrer as its new Concertmaster for the 2024-2025 season. The accomplished violinist, recognized for her remarkable talent and leadership, is expected to bring an impressive mix of energy and experience to the ensemble.

Farrer, a current member of the New Jersey Symphony, has an extensive career as a soloist with numerous ensembles, which include the Goteborgs Symfoniker, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic. As a concertmaster, she has previously collaborated with renowned conductors like James Conlon, James DePreist, and Lorin Maazel, delivering celebrated performances of Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw” at the Kennedy Center with Maestro Maazel.

World-Class Violinist Brings Vernon Experience to Savannah

In her illustrious career, Farrer has served as the guest concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and toured with other globally recognized orchestras like the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada. She has also made her mark as a Celtic musician, performing an array of mixed-genre works on both electric and acoustic instruments in major cities including New York, Chicago, Paris, and London.

Besides her classical musical prowess, Farrer’s rich repertoire includes collaborations with acclaimed Irish and Scottish artists like Alasdair Fraser, Andy Lamy, and Natalie Haas. Not one to confine her talent to a single genre, Farrer’s debut album “Liminal Paths”, released in 2022, illustrates her versatility and artistic depth.

Mark your calendars for the 16th season opener, “Romantic Rachmaninoff,” on Saturday, August 24. This captivating performance at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts will mark Farrer’s debut as Concertmaster with the Savannah Philharmonic.
