Victim Identified After a Body Was Found in Savannah River

AUGUSTA, Ga.

Following a week-long investigation, the deceased body located in the Savannah River has now been identified. The victim was 38-year-old Jermaine Pate, originally from Georgiana, Alabama, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Discovery of the Body

On the early hours of July 19, Pate’s lifeless body was discovered in the Savannah River. His remains were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) lab for an autopsy, as per the advice of the coroner’s office.

In the aftermath of the grim find, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen was summoned to the Riverfront Drive’s 600 block last Monday at 8:18 a.m. The body was found floating in the river, an unsettling discovery made by a local fisherman who alerted authorities by dialing 911. Approximatey half an hour later, at 8:50 a.m., the scene was officially deemed cleared by officials. The autopsy results are currently pending.
