Hardeeville Launches Commerce Park Road

A long-anticipated project for economic upsurge

Hardeeville, a city of devotion and determination opened the new Commerce Park Road on May 28 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project which has been in development for almost a decade marks a significant milestone for the city. The new road will service 15 existing parcels in the city’s commerce park.

“City staff and elected officials have worked tirelessly on this project for over eight years”, expressed the City of Hardeeville Manager, Michael Czymbor. The project encountered several unforeseen obstacles, including COVID-induced supply chain disruptions after the contract was awarded to the consulted general contractor.

Project Genesis

The project took off back in 2005 when Hardeeville received approximately 135 acres of land from Stratford Land as part of the Riverport Development Agreement. The intention was to boost economic growth and generate employment opportunities for residents.

When the Czymbor was appointed as the City Manager in 2015, the local authorities expressed their desire to revolutionize the development of the Hardeeville Commerce Park into a reality. The vision involved designing the roadway, setting up all utility services for the property to render it competently marketable for industrial development.

Project Implementation

Working optimally by mobilizing various state and federal agencies, Jasper County, BJWSA, utility providers, and private developers, the city was able to finance the entire project cost.

The road and associated infrastructure project included the establishment of approximately 5,650 linear feet of access and internal roadways along with 12-foot lanes in each direction. Water improvements comprised constructing approximately 3,400 linear feet of 12-inch water mains and 1,800 linear feet of 8-inch water mains connecting to the existing water system.

Hardeeville Commerce Park – An economic breakthrough

The fresh-out-of-the-oven Commerce Park Road caters to the 15 current commercial plots within the commerce park. The city forecasts the construction of over one million square feet of new buildings because of this development.

“The Hardeeville Commerce Park is one of the nearest industrial parks to the Port of Savannah; we foresee numerous new tenants in the HCP readily servicing the port.” revealed Czymbor. The city anticipates the HCP will be home to a number of light industrial facilities, storage, warehousing, and logistics suppliers, and various other trade businesses.

The development of the HCP will provide Hardeeville residents with high-paying jobs, ushering a considerable amount of new revenue for the city. These boosted earnings are expected to fuel the regeneration and revitalization of Whyte Hardee Blvd.

The triumphant completion of the project was attributed to the coordinated efforts of the mayor, council, city manager, and city staff towards prioritizing economic development.

Final Thoughts

The long-anticipated business park project completion is a testament to Hardeeville’s consistent and collaborative efforts. The new industrial park and the Commerce Park Road promise an economic revolution for Hardeeville.
