Savannah’s Slow Fire BBQ Finds Its Semi-Permanent Home
In an exciting update from Savannah’s food scene, Slow Fire BBQ, the city’s adored food truck, has found its quasi-permanent location after establishing a dedicated clientele over the past year. This exemplifies a well-known model in the food and beverage industry, where food trucks often aim to secure a fixed location upon generating sufficient business and reputation. Conversely, some prefer maintaining the mobility offered by a truck, bypassing the overhead of permanent premises.
From Fast Success to Slow Settlement
The inception of Slow Fire BBQ’s journey dates back to January 2023. An immediate hit amongst the locals and visitors alike, its fame took off like wildfire. Long queues quickly became commonplace at their Starland Yard venue, with sell-outs being frequent early on. Pitmaster Terren Williams, a Savannah native, had nurtured the aspiration to transition into a brick-and-mortar location right from the outset, which he found more efficient and manageable.
Achieving this vision required time, not only for accumulating resources but also for building a loyal customer base and locating the perfect spot. All the pieces of the puzzle seem to be falling into place now, as the Slow Fire BBQ truck has begun operating in the area earmarked for the restaurant.
A Welcome Addition to Waters Avenue
Nested on 1904 Waters Avenue, the new venue is a sight for sore eyes. Over the past few weekends, the converted school bus that houses the famous Slow Fire BBQ has been serving its customers on this very site, adding to the bubbling makeover the Waters Avenue precinct has been undergoing. Even better, they have introduced a few simple brunch items to their menu. These include a delightful brisket taco topped with a fried egg and a hot honey spicy chicken slider fortified with pimento cheese.
The regular menu, featuring the exquisite pulled pork or brisket sandwiches and either meat available by the pound or half-pound, remains in circulation. Adding to the convenience, several picnic tables have been arranged on-site, encouraging patrons to enjoy their meals right there. A portable toilet is also available for emergencies.
Transforming Waters Avenue
This promising development looks set to escalate the already burgeoning revival of Waters Avenue. The neighborhood has been witnessing substantial upliftment recently, with new openings such as the widely celebrated Water Cafe by Clinton Edminster. Other soon-to-spring up ventures include a grocery store and the third location of Gary Gordon’s eminent 520 Wings, indicating a prosperous future for the locality.
Meanwhile, the Slow Fire BBQ truck is continuing its nomadic journey during weekdays. Patrons can spot them at various locations across the city, details of which are shared on their Instagram. However, as the brick-and-mortar establishment’s launch looms closer, people can satisfy their barbeque cravings every weekend at 1904 Waters, provided they are not hired out for any major events.

Slow Fire BBQ’s commitment to setting up a permanent facility by the end of the year will undoubtedly strengthen the neighborhood’s organic growth and development.
