On a sunny Wednesday morning, May 8, the lovely community of Hilton Head Island gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for what the Beaufort County School District has labeled one of its most ambitious construction initiatives to date. With the help of funds from the 2023 bond referendum, the renovations and construction at Hilton Head Island High School are set to take approximately 4.5 years, making this project one of the largest in the district’s recent history.

The lead architect, Don Baus, and his dedicated team have taken the time to engage with community members and the School Improvement Council (SIC) to gather critical input that would shape this project. “The committee felt community involvement will be crucial to the success of the Hilton Head High School design process,” stated Robert Oetting, the school district’s Chief Operations Officer, highlighting the importance of community connection.
