As a much-awaited event in the summer calendar, the 68th Annual Beaufort Water Festival kicks off in Beaufort, South Carolina promising ten days packed full of fun, activities, sporting events, and music. Since its inaugural year in 1956, the festival has grown exponentially and 2024 is no exception, with the schedule chockfull of entertainment for all ages.
The festival officially opens its gates on Friday, July 12, with the spectacular Opening Ceremonies, which includes exciting entertainment by The Parris Island Marine Band and concludes with a stunning Fireworks Display at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Apart from the captivating evening performances, attendees can wander around the Festival Arts & Crafts Market, a free event, showcasing local and regional craftsmanship.
Moving into the first weekend, Saturday, July 13 is jam-packed with a plethora of sporting events such as a Raft Race, Bocce Tournament, Badminton Tournament, and a children’s exclusive Toad Fishing Tournament. One of the unique highlights of the day is a Concert in the Park featuring headlining performer, Parmalee, promising a night of melodies under the stars.
Kids can look forward to their own day of fun on Sunday, July 14 dubbed as the Children’s Day. It boasts of games, shows, bounce houses, and prizes. In addition, free shrimp boat tours will be available for anyone who’s eager to learn about the town’s deep-seated fishing history.
The festival’s weekday events serve a melodic feast with Motown Monday featuring Deas-Guyz and Island Time Tuesday showcasing live Reggae entertainment by Yvad Davy. Wednesday evening holds a Talent Show, a great platform for budding artists, hosted by The Preceptor Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. As the week proceeds towards its weekend, the Lowcountry Supper on Thursday adds a foodie spin to the entertainments, and Friday’s Bed Race transforms into the highlight of the day.
The festival rounds up on the weekend of July 20 with the Beaufort Lions Club organized Water Festival Grand Parade, Non-Profit Expo, stunt-filled Air Show and the Commodore’s Ball. The 68th Annual Beaufort Water Festival signs off on Sunday, July 21, with the traditional and solemn Blessing of the Fleet and Parade of Boats. The proceedings conclude at 3:00 pm, leaving the attendees with memories of an unforgettable event and anticipation for next year’s festival.
The festival organizers ensure that attendees adhere to safety measures and guidelines to maintain an enjoyable environment.
